On a quest to find out what happened to his missing brother, a scientist, his nephew and their mountain guide discover a fantastic and dangerous lost world in the center of the earth.
Professor Trevor Anderson receives his teenager nephew Sean Anderson. He will spend ten days with his uncle while his mother, Elizabeth, prepares to move to Canada. She gives a box to Trevor that belonged to his missing brother, Max, and Trevor find a book with references to the last journey of his brother. He decides to follow the steps of Max with Sean and they travel to Iceland, where they meet the guide Hannah Ásgeirsson. While climbing a mountain, there is a thunderstorm and they protect themselves in a cave. However, lightening collapses the entrance and the trio is trapped in the cave. They seek an exit and fall in a hole, discovering a lost world in the center of the Earth.
Yay!! This movie proves that excitement, adventure and danger do not automatically equal violence, sex jokes and crude behavior. I keep having to say NO to all of the Superhero movies because of the PG-13 rating. So it was great to be able to say &quot;Yes&quot; to my 7-year-old twin boys for once. This is a &quot;manly&quot; movie. The emotional issues men and boys face in life are handled succinctly, giving this movie more depth than the non-stop action would seem to allow. The 3D effects truly add to the excitement. The few gratuitous/gross ones were just plain old fun &amp; funny. <br/><br/>I am disheartened by all the &quot;no plot/no story&quot; comments. Almost all are followed with complaints about a lack of blood, sex and violence. Gone are the days when the STORY itself was enough to entertain folks. I know it is weird to say that about a film that relies heavily on CGI/3D but even when viewing the home version without 3D this movie is enjoyable. Why? because the characters matter, their relationships to each other matter. The other complaint I can&#39;t understand is bashing Fraser for his &quot;one-liners&quot; and &quot;cliches&quot;. Um, people you do understand that he is not writing his own dialogue, don&#39;t you? Besides, loosen up. The quips are harmless fun and there are enough of us out here that kinda like &#39;em. <br/><br/>The theater was packed and people actually clapped at the end. I hope Hollywood pays attention and puts out more PG movies of this caliber. PLEASE New Line Cinema: Make the Atlantis sequel.
from start to finish i was certain i was watching a video game in 3 D . later on i found out that it was really only shown in 2 D . i guess that explains why everything looked extra cheesy . if you are a big fan of C.G.I.&#39;s, then this is your movie . there are only three main &quot;cardboard&quot; characters to speak of . a handsome guy plus a hot chick and of course the &quot;know it all&quot; young boy . there is not much plot or originality here either . a good part of this lame brain movie is clearly a rip off of &quot;Indiana Jones and the temple of doom &quot;. there are no big surprises here and everything is all very predictable to anyone over the age of 12 . young preteens will probably enjoy this flick very much. Journey to the center of the earth has the look and feel of a Saturday afternoon kiddie matinée . fortunately it&#39;s only 92 minutes long and it moves at a fast enough pace . i would have preferred a blindfold instead of the 3D glasses which i kept wiping constantly but never seemed to get clean. for adults i would rate this movie at only a 2, but for kids an 8 . grown ups would probably enjoy the original 1957 &quot; Journey &quot; that i recently caught on cable better P.W.H.
With 3-D, a little goes a long way and, in the absence of a legitimate script with credible characters, the fun dries up long before the running time has expired.
Although Journey to the Center of the Earth (Voyage au centre de la Terre) (1864) was written by French science fiction writer Jules Verne [1828-1905], the movie doesn&#39;t actually follow the book. The basic premise of the movie is that Jules Verne&#39;s books actually happened and are not just works of fiction. The actual book, Journey to the Center of the Earth, is used by the main characters as a guideline for their own voyage. No, it is actually only in 3D where theaters have a RealD digital projector. So, IMAX does not present this film in 3D. Otherwise the movie is also available in 2D at normal theaters. The story is essentially identical, but the 3D version was shot using a slightly different script to emphasize its 3D effects. The 3D version is also rated PG-13 (for some bloody sci-fi violence), in contrast to the PG the 2D version received.
